Important Information
Living Positive Victoria recognises the vital role that volunteering has and continues to play in the response to the HIV epidemic in Australia. We are dedicated to matching individual’s skills and experiences to specific roles within our programs and projects and work in line with the National Volunteering Strategy and the National Standards for Involving Volunteers.
The Positive Speakers Bureau (PSB) program plays an important role by being the human face of HIV. The Bureau reflects the diversity of people impacted by HIV and we welcome new speakers to represent different backgrounds. We provide an inclusive and supportive peer based network. The sharing of peer experiences often leads our speakers to other areas of support, education, advocacy and involvement.
The Bureau empowers HIV positive Victorians to educate the wider community about HIV. Through public speaking and sharing experiences of living with the virus, speakers break down barriers and reduce stigmatisation and misinformation about HIV & AIDS.
All speakers attend formal training workshops and are provided with comprehensive communication skills development to assist personal and professional growth.
- Once fully trained. Speakers are paid an honorarium for their talks.
All prospective PSB volunteers are required to fill out the application form, become a full member of Living Positive Victoria, complete a Working with Children Check, Police Check and attend an informal face-to-face interview to discuss your expectations and how we can best support you.
